Laboratory Services at Brazosport Regional Receives Accreditation by College of American Pathologists and AABB
Brazosport Regional Laboratory Services received a two-year accreditation by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) and College of American Pathologists (CAP). The accreditations underline Brazosport Regional’s focus on high-quality patient care and safety.
The AABB Accreditation follows an intensive on-site assessment by specially trained assessors and establishes that the level of technical and administrative performance within the facility meets or exceeds the standards set by AABB. The Accreditation Program contributes to the quality and safety of collecting, processing, testing, distributing and administering blood products.
Based on the results of a recent, unannounced on-site inspection, the lab also received accreditation from CAP. This national recognition makes Brazosport Regional one of more than 7,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide. During the accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years and also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management. In addition, the laboratory services at Brazosport Regional Family Medicine Center in Brazoria and Brazosport Regional Urgent Care Center received the CAP accreditation.
“These accreditations demonstrate Brazosport Regional’s commitment to excellent healthcare by providing our patients with the highest level of laboratory services,” said Al Guevara, CEO and President of Brazosport Regional Health System. “We are extremely proud of our laboratory team at BRHS and at each of our facilities for exceeding the standards set by both accreditation agencies.”
