Consumer Reports Rates Brazosport Regional as One of the Highest Performing Hospitals in the Houston Region
Consumer Reports published a report on hospital surgical quality and rated Brazosport Regional Health System as one of the highest performing hospitals in the Houston region. Brazosport Regional ranked in the top 8 in the Houston market in demonstrating high quality surgical care.
As a leading national research and ratings organization for goods and services, Consumer Reports is dedicated to work for a fair, just and safe marketplace for all consumers and to empower consumers to protect themselves. As the first of its kind, the safer surgical guide produced by Consumer Reports is designed to inform the public about hospital quality and arm them with better information to make informed decisions.
Consumer Reports rated 2,463 hospitals in all 50 states including Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. To rate the hospitals, Consumer Reports looked at results for 27 kinds of scheduled surgeries that were combined into an Overall Surgery Rating. Subsequently, they developed ratings for five of those procedures including back surgery, replacements of the hip or knee, and procedures to remove blockages in arteries in the heart or neck. The ratings included billing claims submitted to Medicare for patients 65 and older from 2009 to 2011.
“The Consumer Reports rating is a reflection of our hard work and effort to move our quality to a higher level,” said Al Guevara, CEO/President of Brazosport Regional. “In a complex arena of surgery, it takes an entire team to produce a good outcome and we certainly want to acknowledge the skills of our entire Medical Staff as well as the entire BRHS team that supports them.”
